estatuto da carreira docente McPherson The Angus Merlot 2016
So about Merlot.... Miss-understood starts the batting, but the good news is it goes uphill form there in a hurry! I like them powerful from start to finish , with a bright dark crimson colour, plenty of depth and rich tapestry of dark fruits bang full of flavour that lasts and layers on the tongue like a Belgian dark chocolate of expensive production.
The Angus is a smooth, rich wine offering integrated flavours of plums and blackberries with notes of spice and fruitcake. The elegant and balanced palate displays excellent length complemented by subtle oak.
You will revel in this wine as a simply delightful addition to your cellar with every dollar being exceedingly well spent and rip out to the cheese shop fro some Brie and quince paste and you'll think North Korea and Trumps USA had just signed a Nuclear disarmament pact.
JO’S WINEMAKING / VITICULTURE
The grapes for this Merlot were picked and crushed during the cool of night, thus ensuring the retention of varietal character. Modern winemaking techniques were employed throughout, all of which help to create the signature McPherson style. Fermentation took place in sweeping arm red fermenters, giving the wine a denser, richer colour and allowing for gentle flavour extraction. Softer tannins are also a result of this process, an important feature of the McPherson Merlot style. Oak for this wine was predominately French oak and this wine was aged on oak for approximately 6 months, giving the wine a noticeable, but not excessive oak influence.
JO’S HARVEST NOTES The best way to describe vintage 2016 is fast & furious! There was no orderly ripening of fruit, no luxury of white fruit followed by red fruit, it was like the flood gates opened and everything just rolled in at once. Again we had little rain and a very hot spring leading up to harvest, which meant things ripened faster than normal. Optimum flavours and ripeness came on more quickly than previous years and the only way around it was to pick as fast as we could. Thankfully we managed to juggle our way through it, and completed yet another successful harvest!
